The ward that would have <em>saved you</em>

Ward score is a number nobody has ever climbed by raising. The vision that matters is one ward, in the path the killer took, placed before they took it. Here is how to find it in your own deaths.

Why ward count is the wrong number

Vision score rewards placing wards and clearing wards, everywhere, all game. It cannot tell the difference between a ward in the river brush at fourteen minutes that stops a collapse and a ward on your own tower at four minutes that stops nothing. Two players with identical scores can have completely different games, and the one who dies more is not always the one with the lower number.

The vision that decides games is specific. It is a ward in the place the enemy is about to walk through, placed a few seconds before they do. Everything else is maintenance.

What it looks like in your footage

When the coach reviews a death, it asks a narrow question: at the decision point, was the killer visible, and if not, where were they last seen and which path did they take? The vision tag goes on the moment when the answer is a path that a single ward would have covered.

The signs, measured from the recording:

Why the ward does not get placed

It is rarely ignorance. Players know the brush. The ward does not get placed for three ordinary reasons:

  1. Wards are placed on arrival, not on need. The habit is to ward when you get to lane. By the time the enemy is missing, the ward has expired or was cleared and the trinket is on cooldown from a ward that covered nothing.
  2. Placing a ward means walking into the brush. When the enemy laner is pressuring, the brush feels like a risk. It is, and the alternative is not knowing what is coming.
  3. The trinket is treated as a resource to save. Players hold the trinket for "when it matters". The footage shows it unused at the moment that mattered.

The one change

This ties vision to the counting habit from map awareness: the missing enemy is the trigger, the ward is the response, and backing off is the response when the ward is not available. Three linked actions instead of a score to raise.

A drill for your next five games

Each time your trinket comes off cooldown, do not place it. Wait for the next moment an enemy goes missing, then place it in their path toward you. You will place fewer wards. They will be in better places, and you will notice how often the trinket is ready exactly when someone disappears. If it is not ready because you spent it on arrival, you have found the habit.

How the coach catches it

Leaguio Coach tags vision when the footage shows the killer arriving through an unwarded route that a single ward would have covered, and the storyboard marks the last seen position of the killer on the minimap with a dashed question mark so the path is visible on the frame. It does not tag vision when the killer was on the map and the player did not react; that is map awareness. And it does not tag vision on a death where the player could not have placed a ward in time, which is why not every gank gets this tag.

This is what the coach shows you

Every flagged moment in a Leaguio review comes with a storyboard: the frames from your own recording, what the vision models measured on each one, and who was within reach when it went wrong. Nothing inferred, nothing you have to take on faith.
